Bernard Hill, the esteemed British actor renowned for his memorable roles in “Titanic” and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, has passed away at the age of 79.
His agent, Lou Coulson, confirmed his death to British media outlets on Sunday.
Hill’s portrayal of Captain Edward Smith in the 1997 epic romance “Titanic” and his role as Theoden, King of Rohan, in Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” films earned him widespread acclaim and recognition.

Early in his career, Hill starred in the BBC’s celebrated 1982 drama “Boys from the Blackstuff,” which garnered numerous awards and remains revered as one of the finest dramas of its time.
Despite his passing, audiences can anticipate seeing Hill on television screens once again in the upcoming series two of the contemporary BBC drama “The Responder,” featuring Martin Freeman, which premieres in the UK later on Sunday.
