Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced plans for the immediate discounted sale of rice by his administration, offering it to the public at fifty percent of its market price.

This initiative aims to sustain the sale of the commodity at a 50% discount, with provisions made for the poor and vulnerable who cannot afford to purchase rice, as they will receive it free of charge.

The governor made this announcement during the breaking of Ramadan fast organized for the League of Imams and Alfas at the Presidential Lodge Annex in Ibara, Abeokuta, on Tuesday night.

A committee has already been established to oversee the sale of the discounted rice.

Governor Abiodun stated that the sale of rice at a 50% price discount would commence with public servants across the board.

He emphasized that this reduction in price would help residents recover their purchasing power lost due to prevailing inflation.

Furthermore, Governor Abiodun pledged to construct a suitable secretariat for the League of Imams and Alfas, which would serve as a benchmark for other states.

Imam Tajudeen Adewunmi, the League Secretary, commended the governor for his benevolent actions and described him as a leader who does not inflict pain on the people.

During the event, special prayers were offered for President Tinubu’s 72nd birthday, scheduled for March 29.

The League conferred on the governor the title of Ambassador of Peace in Islam in recognition of his efforts towards promoting peace and harmony in the state.
