In the midst of an unexpected power hijacking incident in Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun conducted the official swearing-in of two Permanent Secretaries on Tuesday.
This incident, expected to disrupt the governor’s activities, unfolded during the swearing-in ceremony of three judges at the Cinema Hall, Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.
The judges sworn in were Mr. Martins Ayodele Akinyemi for the State High Court, Mrs. Bolanle Adenike Awoyemi, and Mr. Adeniyi Olusanya Lawal for the State Customary Court of Appeal.
During the event, State Speaker Olakunle Oluomo experienced a shocking turn of events as his convoy was withdrawn, and he later discovered he had been impeached in his absence.

The impeachment, executed by 18 out of 26 legislative members, accused Oluomo of gross misconduct, highhandedness, lack of focus and transparency, financial misappropriation, and pursuing selfish interests.
This unexpected impeachment reportedly caused a delay in Governor Dapo Abiodun’s activities for the day.
Despite the disruption, Governor Abiodun proceeded with the swearing-in of two Permanent Secretaries, Engineer Muritala Adekunle and Engineer Olufisan Osiyale, at the Exco chamber in the governor’s office in Abeokuta.
He congratulated the newly appointed secretaries, emphasizing their merit-based selection from a pool of qualified directors.
The governor urged them to collaborate closely with commissioners and prioritize the overall interest of public service.

Amidst the challenges, Governor Abiodun continued his official duties, including receiving the Ogun State Council of Obas and meeting with Teach for Nigeria representatives.
He assured the council members of his commitment to good governance and discussed the positive impact of the Teach for Nigeria program on education in the state.
The Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, speaking on behalf of council members, Baales, and high chiefs, expressed happiness over the Supreme Court’s affirmation of the governor’s victory and praised his exemplary performance.
Despite the initial disruptions, the governor proceeded with his official activities, including a late-night meeting with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Pilot, Forum of Councillors from the 236 Wards, and Forum of former Councillors (2016-2019) from the 20 local government areas.
During the meeting, Governor Abiodun acknowledged his victory at the Supreme Court and assured various groups of his dedication to serving the people during his second term.
In the aftermath of the impeachment, Oludaisi Elemide was elected as the new Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly.
Addressing the media after his election, Elemide cleared the governor of any involvement in Oluomo’s impeachment, stating that Governor Abiodun knew nothing about the Tuesday’s events.
The departure of the speaker raises questions about Governor Abiodun’s ability to navigate the dynamics of the new House of Representatives.
