Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, paid tribute to the late Iyalode of Yoruba land, Chief Mrs. Alaba Lawson, stating that her legacy would serve as a reference and inspiration for future generations.

The governor expressed these sentiments during the funeral and outing service at the African Church, Cathedral of St. James, Idi-Ape, Ago-Oko, Abeokuta.

Governor Abiodun acknowledged Chief Alaba Lawson’s outstanding accomplishments, highlighting her role as the first female president of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) former Chairman of the Board of Governing Council at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, and her contributions as a Fellow and Council Member of the Institute of Directors.

He described her dedication to serving the nation, Ogun State, and society at large as extraordinary and challenging to replicate.

Chief Alaba Lawson was recognized as a philanthropist who earned numerous accolades during her lifetime, and her impact extended beyond Ogun State to the entire country. The governor emphasized her advocacy for women’s rights, cultural promotion, and fearless commitment to societal well-being.

Governor Abiodun praised Mrs. Lawson as a loving mother, an impactful figure, and a strong supporter of his administration.

He reassured that the government would take necessary steps to sustain her legacy, stating, “We as a government will do the needful in sustaining your legacy.”

The Primate of the African Church, His Eminence Julius Olayinka Abbe, delivered a sermon praising Chief Alaba Lawson’s kindness and generosity.

He emphasized her role as a defender of the defenseless and a reliable mother to all, regardless of biological relationships.

Referring to the Book of Matthew 5 verse 8, the cleric lamented the indifference of some wealthy individuals and urged those in authority to alleviate the suffering caused by the removal of petroleum subsidy.

The funeral service was attended by dignitaries, including former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and his wife, Chief (Mrs) Bola Obasanjo, former Governor Ibikunle Amosun and his wife, Olufunso, and the wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, among others.
