Residents of Akingbade, Awoh, and Awoh Galaxy are urgently seeking assistance as the bridge leading to their area has become a dangerous passage for motorists and pedestrians, particularly during the rainy season.

This bridge, situated in Akingbade near Apete along Fajor Tared Road in Obantoko, Odeda local government, Ogun state is vital for many communities, including Awoh and Awoh Galaxy.

In an interview with Saving Point Media, Olayiwola, the Baale (community leader) of Onisan, emphasized that the road is a state road serving as an alternative route to Bode Olude and the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, among other important locations in the area.

According to Olayiwola, heavy rainfall has severely damaged the bridge, which previously had three lanes but has now been reduced to one due to neglect.

The community has been pooling resources to maintain the remaining portion of the bridge to prevent further deterioration, but it suffered significant damage yesterday.

He further explained that the community has raised funds to produce rings for constructing a new bridge.

However, the costs are prohibitive for the community alone, necessitating support from both the Odeda Local Government and the state government.

Despite writing multiple letters to the local government chairman, Hon. Folasade Adeyemi Waliat, the community has received no positive response, with promises remaining unfulfilled.

Following the recent flood that impacted the bridge, it has now become a death trap, leaving residents vulnerable to being stranded if heavy rains occur again.

The community is pleading for urgent intervention from the state and local governments to prevent potential tragedies, including the risk of children falling into the river during the rainy season and the inability of vehicles to traverse the bridge.
