On Wednesday, youths aged 19 to 36 involved in extorting pedestrians at the International Trade Fair Bus Stop in Lagos were arrested by the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI.

The apprehended suspects were identified as Elisha Odunsi, 19; Muhammed Saidu, 20; Tunde Kazeem, 20; Musbau Habeeb, 26; and Muftau Ottun, 36.

They will be charged in court for prosecution.

According to the Corps Marshal, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (retd), “We caught wind of the negative acts of these criminals hindering pedestrian activity at the popular Trade Fair bus stop via a viral video circulating on social media and we swung into action to arrest the five suspects involved, to serve them justice through the courts for the pain caused to Lagosians in this rainy season.”

In the same vein, as part of concerted efforts to rid the state of environmental infractions and ensure pedestrians’ safety, Major Cole also revealed that three suspects were apprehended on Queens Street, Alagomeji, Yaba for accessing a building under government seal for criminal purposes.

He affirmed that they would be appropriately charged before a competent court of jurisdiction.

He equally admonished Lagosians to embrace appropriate waste disposal practices by patronizing approved PSP operators and discouraged dumping refuse in drains, gutters, and canals to prevent flooding during the rainy season.

Advocating for pedestrians’ safety, Cole urged Lagos residents to use strategically erected bridges in Lagos to cross highways.

He emphasized that KAI operatives stationed at various operational beats in the state are on the ground daily to apprehend defaulters for prosecution.
