Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East Senatorial District, has raised concerns over the low enlistment rate from the South West zone into the military and police force.

Speaking on Tuesday at the “Dialogue With Journalists” program organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ogun State, Senator Daniel encouraged parents to support their children’s decision to join the forces, citing the benefits and opportunities available.

As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, Daniel has sponsored eleven bills, including the South West Development Commission Bill, aimed at boosting the region’s economy.

He also highlighted various empowerment schemes and medical initiatives benefiting over 3,000 people in his constituency.

The Senator emphasized the importance of military service, which has produced notable leaders in politics and the economy.

He urged parents to stop discouraging their children from joining the military and paramilitary services, emphasizing the positive impact on their lives and the nation.

“As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, I have seen firsthand our people’s lackadaisical approach to enlistment in this noble service.

“A lot of positive things are happening in the Nigerian Navy daily, and I want to urge parents to stop discouraging their wards from joining the military and paramilitary services,” he said.

Earlier in his welcome address, Union Chairman Comrade Wale Olanrewaju appreciated the organizing committee’s efforts and acknowledged the support of partners and sponsors.

He also thanked the guest speaker and panelists for their expertise and insights, which he believed would enrich the participants’ understanding and inspire them to strive for excellence in their profession.
