The race to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen could take another twist in the coming weeks if former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte takes over the Italian side.

Osimhen remains one of the most in-demand center-forwards ahead of the transfer window, despite a dip in form from his stellar 2022/23 season.

After scoring 26 goals in 32 Serie A appearances to lead Napoli to the league title, Osimhen managed just 17 goals in all competitions in the following campaign.

Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that the 25-year-old will be leaving the club this summer.

Chelsea and Arsenal have both shown strong interest, while Paris Saint-Germain is expected to join the race following Kylian Mbappe’s exit.

However, Osimhen’s future could be influenced by Conte, who is expected to join Napoli as head coach, marking his return to football after leaving Tottenham Hotspur over a year ago.

Osimhen’s €130m (£110.7m) release clause is likely too high for Chelsea to meet, but a potential player-plus-cash deal involving Lukaku could be an option.

The financial aspects of the deal are a concern, and it’s uncertain whether the next Chelsea manager will prioritize signing Osimhen. However, if Chelsea owner Todd Boehly can orchestrate a deal to sell Lukaku and bring in Osimhen, it could be a favorable outcome for the Blues.
