President Bola Tinubu has credited his victory in the 2023 election to his time in parliament during the botched Third Republic.

Tinubu was elected to the Senate to represent Lagos Central District under the Social Democratic Party. His tenure as a Senator lasted from December 5, 1992, until November 17, 1993, when General Sani Abacha’s government takeover ended the Third Republic.

Speaking at the flag-off of the ‘Nigeria, We Hail Thee’ anthem at a joint sitting of the Senate and House of Representatives in Abuja on Wednesday, President Tinubu emphasized the crucial role of parliament in his political journey.

He urged lawmakers to continue fostering and sustaining the nation’s democracy.

“Without this house (parliament), probably, I may not have found the path to the Presidency.

It started all here. Please, continue to collaborate and work together. We have no other choice. It is our nation,” he stated.
