Popular singer Tiwa Savage shared her experience of being prevented from performing in Nigeria due to her perceived indecent dressing when she returned from the United Kingdom to pursue her musical career.
Speaking in a recent interview with BET, savage revealed that her outfits were considered “too risqué” for some concert organizers, leading to her exclusion from performances.
She also mentioned that some of her early music videos were not aired on television due to similar concerns about indecency.

Savage explained, “When I first moved back, I would turn up at a show and they would say I can’t perform because my outfit was too risqué. It was a cultural issue.
Even some of my first music videos were not played on the television because they were considered indecent. I wasn’t even wearing bikinis.”
She noted that while criticism mounted, her fanbase continued to grow, leading to increased demand for her music and performances.
“It was funny because the females were secretly falling in love with me and my style. They couldn’t deny it. My fanbase, my followers, was growing. So they had to put me on shows and play my music because there was a demand for it,” she added.
In addition to discussing her challenges with dressing, Tiwa Savage recently revealed the inspiration behind her newly unveiled movie, “Water & Garri.” During a pre-launch press conference at Livespot Entertainment, she disclosed that the idea for the movie came to her while she was intoxicated, and she credited her team for embracing the concept and bringing it to fruition.
