Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, caused a scene on Tuesday when he jumped a gate to evade arrest by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command. The arrest followed a complaint from a car dealer who claimed Portable owed money for a vehicle purchase.

Portable had initiated the purchase of a N27 million G-Wagon from the dealer, making an initial payment and promising to settle the remaining amount later. However, he allegedly failed to pay the outstanding balance, leading to the complaint.

In a video circulating on social media, Portable, dressed in a white and black striped shirt, is seen conversing with the officers who came to arrest him. Standing alongside eight other people, he initially responded calmly to the officers showing him a warrant of arrest, saying, “No problem, no problem Oga mi,” while pacing around.

Suddenly, Portable turned to a man, believed to be his friend, and assured him before quickly climbing over a nearby gate and fleeing.

Confirming the arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said, “Yes, Portable has been arrested. He bought a G-Wagon for N27 million, paid N13 million, and refused to pay the rest, claiming the vehicle was bad. We arrested him today.”

This is not Portable’s first run-in with the law. In 2023, he was arrested and arraigned over allegations of assault on a former signee. The police had asked the ‘Zazoo Zehh’ crooner to turn himself in, following the assault allegations, but he did not comply until he was picked up at his Ota residence.
