A 17-year-old Junior Secondary School (JSS) student, Sunday Adegbulu, from Akure, the capital of Ondo state, on Sunday recounted on how he was electrocuted and suffered burns while attempting to vandalize an electricity transformer.
He was paraded by the state security outfit known as Amotekun.
According to Adegbulu, he and two others planned to sell the vandalized cable to a sponsor named Mr. Abubakar for N25,000.
He admitted it was his second operation, with the previous one involving the theft of electrical installations from an unfinished building.
Recalling the incident on April 28, Adegbulu stated, “I never knew that there was going to be electricity supply. It’s the handwork of the devil that pushed me to the crime. Half of my body was burnt when electricity was supplied to the transformer.”

The state commander of Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, addressed the arrest of 45 suspected criminals, highlighting the case of Adegbulu and his involvement in transformer vandalism.
He mentioned the rigorous efforts to apprehend Adegbulu, who was moved out of Akure after sustaining severe injuries from the electrocution.
Adeleye revealed that Adegbulu provided valuable information about nine other members of his gang, including their godfather who is currently on the run.
Additionally, Adeleye discussed other criminal activities the security outfit had tackled, such as kidnapping, house theft, and burglary.
He emphasized the importance of timely and accurate information from the public in combating crime, noting that over 70 percent of criminals apprehended were due to such information.
Adeleye assured the people of Ondo State of the government’s commitment to ensuring their safety and urged them to continue providing support and cooperation to security agencies.
