Nigerian sprinter Tobi Amusan has once again left her mark on the track, claiming the title of the fastest woman in the women’s 100m hurdles this year.

In a stunning performance at the first Jamaica Athletics Invitational held in Kingston, Amusan blazed through the finish line in a remarkable 12.40 seconds, securing victory ahead of Jamaican and world champion, Danielle Williams.

Throughout much of the race, Amusan trailed behind reigning world champion Williams and America’s Nia Ali.

However, in a remarkable display of speed and determination, she surged ahead in the closing stages, eclipsing the previous world-leading time of 12.42 seconds set by Tonea Marshall of the USA on April 20.

Williams crossed the finish line in second place with a time of 12.46 seconds, while Christina Clemens of the USA claimed third place with a time of 12.54 seconds.

Yanique Thompson, another Jamaican athlete, secured fourth place with a time of 12.59 seconds, while Nia Ali slipped to fifth place with a time of 12.65 seconds.

Amusan’s decision to participate in the Jamaica Invitational alongside other prominent athletes, despite the concurrent Doha Diamond League, underscored her determination to compete at the highest level.

The victory in Jamaica marks a triumphant return for Amusan, who concluded last season by clinching the Diamond League title in Eugene, Oregon, for the third consecutive time.

This achievement silenced critics who had doubted her following a fifth-place finish at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, where she relinquished the title to Williams.
