The Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) has diverged from the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) regarding the date for a sit-at-home event in honor of Biafran heroes who lost their lives during the 1967-1970 Civil War in Nigeria.
According to a statement released on Sunday by Simon Ekpa, the Prime Minister of BRGIE, the sit-at-home in Biafra land will take place from May 29th to May 31st, 2024.
This contrasts with IPOB’s declaration of a sit-at-home on May 30th, 2024.

Ekpa explained that the three-day sit-at-home was deemed necessary to enable Biafrans to vote for the Liberation of Biafra.
He emphasized the importance of Biafrans casting their votes for the cause during this period.
The BRGIE Prime Minister underscored that the Biafra Civil War had not truly ended, stating that the Nigerian government has continued to engage in hostilities against Biafrans up to the present day.
He urged Biafrans across the Southeast and South-South regions to participate in the voting process for Biafra Liberation, emphasizing that the sit-at-home should serve as more than just a remembrance of heroes but as a means to further the cause of Biafra’s freedom.
Ekpa outlined that the Biafra Self-referendum comprises three stages, with the last stage ending in November 2024.
Additionally, he mentioned that the Declaration convention would commence on November 29th and conclude on December 3rd, 2024.
