Hamza Mohammed has been sentenced to death by hanging for his involvement in the stabbing death of another man during a free-for-all in Niger State.
Alongside Baba Usman, who remains at large, Mohammed chased and fatally stabbed Isah Mohammed during the altercation.
The incident, which occurred in 2015 during a party, resulted in a violent clash between youths from the Kpakungu area of Minna and youths from Barikin Saleh.
Isah Mohammed tragically lost his life in the confrontation.
Initially arraigned in August 2015 on charges of joint act and culpable homicide, Mohammed denied direct involvement in the killing, claiming that he and Baba Usman pursued the deceased but that Baba Usman was the one who inflicted the fatal stab wounds.

During the trial, Mohammed admitted to chasing the victim with a knife alongside Baba Usman but asserted that he only arrived at the scene after the fatal stabbing had occurred.
In delivering the judgment, the Presiding High Court Judge, Justice Halima Abdulmalik, found Mohammed guilty on the two-count charges of joint act and culpable homicide, punishable under sections 79 and 221 of the penal code.
She emphasized that the prosecutor had sufficiently proven Mohammed’s culpability beyond a reasonable doubt.
Consequently, Justice Abdulmalik sentenced Mohammed to death by hanging, as stipulated by law for offenses of culpable homicide punishable by death.
The judge concluded the proceedings with a solemn invocation for mercy upon Mohammed’s soul.
