The Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal in Abuja, on April 29, 2024, issued an interim order restraining MultiChoice Nigeria Limited from raising DSTV tariffs.

The tribunal, chaired by Saratu Shafii, directed the order to be affixed at MultiChoice offices nationwide, including their corporate headquarters, branches, and online platforms.

This order came following a suit filed by Abuja-based lawyer Festus Onifade against MultiChoice Nigeria Ltd and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.

Onifade sought to halt MultiChoice’s tariff increase scheduled for May 1, 2024, pending the hearing of the case.

Despite attempts to serve MultiChoice at its Abuja office, the tribunal faced resistance, leading to an order for substituted service.

As per this directive, the restraint notice must be prominently displayed at MultiChoice premises and communicated through their official channels.

MultiChoice had announced price hikes for its DSTV and GOtv packages, attributing the increase to rising operational costs in Nigeria.
