Tension flared during the Senate’s return to plenary on Tuesday as senators engaged in a heated dispute over seating arrangements.
The session commenced around 11 am with the Senate President, GodsWill Akpabio, making announcements, including birthday celebrations of lawmakers during the break.
Senator Sahabi Yau (APC, Zamfara North) raised objections towards Senate leader Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central), escalating tensions as Danjuma Goje (APC, Gombe Central) joined in, directing their frustration at Bamidele and Senate Services chairman Sunday Karimi (APC, Kogi West) over seating allocations.

The altercation stemmed from dissatisfaction with seating arrangements in the newly renovated chamber, particularly among senior Senators seated on the far right of the front row.
Despite the Senate President’s attempts to mediate, the dispute persisted for about 20 minutes before the session resumed.
Following Akpabio’s opening remarks, the Senate leader proposed moving into a closed-door session, which was approved, leading to an executive session at approximately 12:05 pm.
The Senate had previously adjourned plenary on March 20, with resumption postponed twice to allow for the completion of renovations on the chamber, ongoing since 2022.
