Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State made a visit to the residence of embattled former governor Yahaya Bello in Abuja amidst heightened security measures.

Ododo arrived at Bello’s home around 2:30 pm on Wednesday, accompanied by numerous security personnel and youth supporters protesting against the ongoing siege.

During a visit to the residence later that day, our correspondent observed a significant presence of armed operatives from various security agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the police, the Department of State Security, the Counter Terrorism Unit, and Bello’s private security team.

Earlier in the day, EFCC operatives had stormed Bello’s residence in Wuse Zone 4, FCT, leading to a standoff. Photographs obtained by our correspondent depicted armed EFCC personnel surrounding the premises on Benghazi Street.

As of press time, the reason behind the siege remained unconfirmed, as EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale did not respond to inquiries. However, the EFCC had recently charged Bello, along with others, with alleged money laundering, prompting condemnation from Bello’s media office.

The media office criticized the EFCC’s actions, citing a court injunction restraining the agency from harassing or prosecuting Bello pending the resolution of a fundamental rights enforcement action.
