In a significant political move, eight former local government chairmen in Edo State returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, reversing their defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongside Governor Godwin Obaseki in 2020.
Among the returnees are John Akhigbe (former Etsako Central), Dr. Josie Ogedegbe (Igueben), Frank Ilaboya (Owan West), Andrew Osigwe (Owan East), Napoleon Agbama (Uhunmwonde), Scott Ogbemudia (Ovia North East), Austin Okoibhole (Esan North East), and Mrs. Ruth Osahor (Esan West).
They expressed their renewed allegiance to the APC and vowed to work towards the party’s victory in the September 21, 2024 election.

The returning politicians were warmly received at the Benin residence of APC leader Senator Adams Oshiomhole, alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, running mate Dennis Idahosa, and acting state Chairman Jaret Tenebe.
Addressing the gathering, Oshiomhole expressed gratitude for their return, emphasizing the party’s inclusive ethos. He highlighted the importance of their contributions to the APC’s progressive politics and welcomed them back into the fold.
In response, Frank Ilaboya, speaking on behalf of the returnees, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the warm reception and affirmed their commitment to the APC’s vision and objectives.
He pledged their dedication to supporting the party’s candidates and ensuring the success of the upcoming electoral endeavors.
