Nottingham Forest has taken action by lodging an appeal against a four-point deduction imposed on them for breaching the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR), the club announced on Monday.
The club’s relegation fears were compounded last week when they received a four-point deduction for financial irregularities during the 2022-23 season.
This ruling pushed Forest into the relegation zone, currently sitting in 18th place with 21 points, just one point shy of safety.

Expressing their discontent with the decision, Nottingham Forest voiced their disappointment and initiated the appeal process within the allotted seven-day period.
Earlier this season, Everton successfully reduced their points deduction from 10 to six after appealing against similar financial rule breaches.
Premier League regulations dictate that clubs cannot accumulate losses exceeding £105 million ($133.6 million) over a three-year period.
However, the rules are applied differently to Forest, considering their previous status in the Championship, where the permissible losses are capped at £39 million ($49.6 million) across three seasons or £13 million ($16.6 million) annually. This adjustment indicates that Forest’s permissible losses over the past three seasons total £61 million ($77.7 million).
The club’s substantial transfer activity upon their promotion to the Premier League ahead of the 2022-23 season has been under scrutiny.
Forest made a record-breaking 21 separate deals during the close-season window, raising questions regarding their adherence to financial regulations in the top flight.
