Elders within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have urged Governor Lucky Aiywdatiwa to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the passing of Dr. Paul Akintelure, a governorship aspirant of the party.
Before his demise, Akintelure had raised concerns about threats to his life in a statement released through his media aide, Olalekan Akintelure. Despite these threats, he expressed determination not to succumb to intimidation, stating, “The threats against me only strengthen my resolve to stand up for what is right and just.”
In response to these developments, Ondo APC Aborigines, a group comprising party elders, convened a meeting on Tuesday. The chairman of the group, Sola Iji, who is also a former Nigerian Ambassador to Togo, expressed sorrow over Akintelure’s passing.

He disclosed that the purpose of the gathering was originally to announce the group’s preferred candidate among the numerous governorship aspirants. However, the meeting was postponed as a mark of respect for the deceased aspirant.
Iji emphasized the need for the governor to investigate Akintelure’s death, given his earlier claims of threats to his life. He stated, “If he so expressed that threat, even though we do not know the details, we call on the governor to unravel whatever mystery surrounding his death.”
In response to the tragic news, Governor Aiyedatiwa conveyed his condolences to the Akintelure family and the people of Okitipupa Local Government Area. Describing Akintelure as a core progressive, the governor lamented the loss of a respected individual known for his integrity and dedication to progressive politics.
Following Akintelure’s demise, all APC governorship aspirants have halted their political activities as a gesture of respect for the late party stalwart.
