Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey will miss Nigeria’s upcoming match against Mali on Tuesday due to injury, necessitating his return to England for further medical assessment.

The Fulham player, part of the 23-man squad for Nigeria’s games against Ghana and Mali, was sidelined during the 2-1 victory over Ghana. Bassey, who has been a consistent presence for the Super Eagles since joining Fulham last season, made his debut in March 2022 under coach Gernot Rohr and notably contributed to Nigeria’s second-place finish in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite being a potential starter for the Mali game, Bassey will have to wait for another opportunity as he heads back to Fulham for evaluation and treatment, as reported by Fulham Fan News.

While the extent of his injury remains unknown, it could pose a significant setback for Fulham, currently positioned 12th in the Premier League with nine matches remaining, as they aim to finish strongly and possibly secure a European berth.

Having scored one goal in 20 league appearances this season, including a notable strike against Manchester United on February 24, Bassey’s absence will be felt both by Nigeria and Fulham as they navigate their respective campaigns.
