Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has sanctioned the disbursement of bursary awards to Abia State natives studying in law schools nationwide.

This decision was announced by the state Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, following the Executive Council meeting held in Umuahia on Monday, March 19th, 2024, chaired by Governor Otti.

Kanu emphasized the government’s commitment to education by highlighting the approval for the renovation of 170 primary schools, equivalent to 10 schools per local government, along with ongoing renovation efforts for six model schools.

Additionally, 51 secondary schools have been earmarked for renovation, equating to three schools per local government.

In further detail, Kanu outlined the modern features planned for these schools, including staff quarters, caretaker’s residence, head teacher’s accommodation, and gatehouses.

He also mentioned the inclusion of nurseries in primary schools, aligning with the government’s promise to enhance educational standards in Abia.

However, Kanu regretfully informed about the delisting of certain schools by WAEC due to examination malpractice, primarily affecting private institutions.

Despite the government’s displeasure with this development, Kanu stressed that it aligns with the present administration’s commitment to ensuring compliance with regulations.

Moreover, Governor Otti is scheduled to inaugurate the construction of the 30 kilometers Arochukwu – Ndiokereke – Ozuabam Road on March 19th, followed by the 11.5 kilometers Nunya -Eluama -Isuikwuato Road on March 26th, as part of ongoing infrastructural development initiatives.
