The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the age of 81.
His burial ceremony, following Islamic rites, will take place today, Friday, March 15, 2024, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Traditionally, the Olubadan title alternates between the Olubadan line (civil line) and the Balogun line (military line). Oba Balogun’s reign spanned two years.

While his reign was not the shortest in history, it is noteworthy to mention other Olubadans who had shorter reigns, according to records on the Olubadan website, Olubadan.com:
- Olubadan Oyetunde I Eleta: One month reign in November to December 1946.
- Olubadan Memudu Alli Iwo Gbenla: Three months reign in 1942.
- Olubadan Fagbinrin Akere II Oritamerin: Six months reign in 1946.
- Oba Yesufu Kobiowu Oranyan: Six months reign.
- Baale Oderinlo Opeagbe Idiomo/Kure: One year reign between 1850 and 1851.
- Ba’ale Ibikunle: One year reign between 1864 and 1865.
- Baale Orowusi (Awarun) Kobomoje: One year reign between 1870 and 1871.
- Olubadan Akintunde Bioku Oleyo, Oranyan: One year reign between 1947 and 1948.
- Oba Gbadamosi Akanbi Adebimpe Odinjo: One year reign between 1976 and 1977.
- Basorun Ogumola Mapo: Two years reign between 1865 and 1867.
The longest-serving Olubadan is Olubadan Okunola Abaasi Alesinloye Isale Ijebu, who ruled for 16 years, between 1930 and 1946.
