The Ogun State Government is gearing up for a crackdown on retailers of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, situated in shops and residential areas, labeling such establishments as illegal and unapproved for operation in those locations.
Olatunji Odunlami, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, expressed these views in an interview with Saving Point Media, cautioning against patronizing such LPG retail stores due to safety concerns.
Odunlami likened these stores to potential explosives waiting to detonate, noting the absence of fire extinguishers in many of them.

He emphasized that the government would soon take action against them and prosecute those found operating illegally.
The Commissioner stated that they are currently engaging in dialogue with members of the LPG retail association before initiating the relocation process.
He addressed concerns raised by LPG retailers about potential loss of livelihood, asserting that the government cannot overlook the safety risks posed by these establishments.
