During routine Ramadan enforcement operations involving inspections of eateries and markets, the Kano State Hisbah Board detained 11 Muslims on Tuesday for violating the fast by consuming food during daylight hours.

Ten men were apprehended across various areas of the city, particularly around bustling markets.

Additionally, a woman selling groundnuts was arrested after being observed eating from her stock, following reports from bystanders.

Lawal Ibrahim, the board’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrests during an interview with the BBC Hausa Service. He specified that the arrests occurred on Tuesday throughout the city, especially in proximity to markets.

Ibrahim emphasized that non-Muslims are not targeted in these enforcement activities.

However, if they are found selling food to Muslims during fasting hours, they may be considered to be in violation of regulations.
