The Federal Government announced on Monday that it would take severe measures against power distributors that reject electricity allocated to them by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, declared that any distribution company (Disco) found rejecting allocated power would face consequences, including possible license revocation.
He emphasized the need for Discos to take up a minimum of 90 to 95 percent of the power supplied to their jurisdiction.
Additionally, the Minister disclosed plans to increase power generation and supply to between 6,000 and 6,500 megawatts in the next three to six months.

He highlighted the government’s commitment to addressing the ongoing crisis in the power sector, emphasizing that the current situation of inadequate power supply was unacceptable.
Adelabu also discussed strategies to improve power generation, including addressing outstanding debts to gas companies and generating companies (Gencos).
He emphasized the importance of stabilizing gas supply to ensure consistent power generation.
Furthermore, Adelabu directed the Transmission Company of Nigeria to investigate the cause of a recent fire incident at the Kano transmission substation.
He expressed concern over the incident and emphasized the need for preventive measures to avoid future occurrences.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company announced power outages in 15 communities in Kaduna State due to a technical fault on the 33KV independent feeder.
The company assured customers that normal supply would be restored once the fault was rectified.
Overall, the Federal Government’s initiatives aim to address challenges in the power sector, enhance power generation and supply, and ensure the efficient distribution of electricity to consumers across Nigeria.
