The arrest of Emmanuel Ovwarueso in Benin City, Edo State, for allegedly beheading his daughter for money ritual has shocked the community and sparked outrage.

The heinous act, carried out in the presence of his wife, has left many in disbelief and horror.

According to reports, Ovwarueso was apprehended by operatives of the Edo State Security Network (ESSN) in Uteh, Upper Mission, where he resides.

He was found in possession of the head of his deceased daughter in a polythene bag, leading to his immediate arrest.

The wife of the suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, revealed that her husband’s behavior had recently changed, displaying signs of newfound wealth and extravagant spending.

She expressed shock and disbelief at her husband’s actions, stating that they had no idea he planned to sacrifice their daughter for money ritual.

Members of the ESSN, upon intercepting Ovwarueso, discovered the gruesome evidence and proceeded to interrogate him. Subsequently, they found the wife tied up in their home, confirming her account of the events.

The body of the girl was later found buried in a shallow grave, leading to Ovwarueso’s arrest and subsequent handover to the Nigeria Police, Edo State Command.

This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for strengthened efforts to combat ritual killings and protect vulnerable individuals in society.

The swift response of the security operatives in apprehending the suspect is commendable, but further investigation and measures are necessary to ensure justice is served and prevent such atrocities from recurring.
