It’s deeply saddening to hear about the tragic accident that occurred on Monday in Ogun State, resulting in the loss of two teenage siblings.

According to reports from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the accident took place at the Irewon Junction along the Imowo-Ibadan garage axis of Ijebu Ode.

The accident involved a Honda Accord car and the two teenage pedestrians, who unfortunately turned out to be siblings.

It’s reported that the driver of the Honda Accord was driving at excessive speed, leading to a loss of control and ultimately crashing into the children who were walking by the roadside.

This resulted in their immediate death.

The incident understandably caused anger among local youths, who initially threatened to take matters into their own hands and potentially harm the driver.

However, with the intervention of TRACE, the Army, and the Police, the driver was rescued from potential harm. Unfortunately, the vehicle was burnt by the angry crowd, escalating tensions further.

Subsequently, security forces managed to disperse the angry youths and reopen the road.

The accidented vehicle has been taken to the Obalende Police Station for further investigation, while the bodies of the deceased siblings have been deposited at the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital mortuary.

TRACE, the Nigeria Army, and the Police expressed their condolences to the family of the victims.

They also reiterated the importance of drivers avoiding excessive speed, as well as the need for pedestrians to prioritize their safety by facing oncoming traffic while walking by the roadside.

Such tragic incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for all road users to exercise caution to prevent accidents and loss of lives.
