In February 2024, a total of 42 individuals lost their lives, with 53 sustaining injuries in multiple auto crashes across Ogun State.

Most of these accidents occurred on the state’s segment of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, as reported by data compiled by Saving Point Media.

The deadliest accident of the period happened on February 20 at Kere Bridge near Ewekoro on the Ota-Abeokuta Expressway, resulting in nine fatalities and 11 injuries.

Prior to that, on February 12, another tragic incident occurred near the Four Square Praying Ground axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, claiming five lives and leaving 12 critically injured.

The month began with a multiple-crash near Danco Filling Station at the Mowe axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, caused by a speeding car losing control and colliding with other vehicles.

On February 9, four individuals died after a car veered off the road and somersaulted into a swamp following a tire burst at the J-Five axis of the Sagamu-Ore Expressway.

Additional accidents included a lone crash at Iyana Ilogbo on the Ota-Abeokuta Road, where two died and two were injured, as well as an incident where an unspecified number of people died after a car plunged into the Iju River along the Ota-Idiroko Road.

Further fatalities occurred on February 19 at the Toll Gate Ota axis of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, followed by another tragic crash involving a bus and a truck at Kere Bridge near Ewekoro, resulting in nine deaths and seven injuries.

In a separate incident along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Interchange Expressway near the PMB Estate, one person was killed and nine others injured when a Mitsubishi Canter veered off the road.

The month concluded with a multiple-crash on February 28 at the Mowe axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which claimed the lives of five individuals and injured 10 others.

Lastly, on February 29, a car and a passenger bus collided at Fidiwo axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, resulting in five deaths and five injuries.
