Retired Federal High Court Judge Ibrahim Buba has criticized politicians for placing excessive demands on the judiciary to uphold democracy in Nigeria.
Speaking at a conference organized by Tap Initiative in Abuja, he highlighted the need for politicians to adhere to constitutional rules and focus on developmental politics.
Buba emphasized that while issues within the judiciary are often scrutinized, the broader challenges stemming from the political system are overlooked.
He stressed that societal improvement hinges on political leaders following constitutional guidelines laid out by their parties and the nation.

The judge pointed out that politicians burden the judiciary with inter-party disputes, election petitions, and attempts to influence legal interpretations, diverting the judiciary from its core functions.
He urged politicians to prioritize developmental politics to prevent unnecessary conflicts and resource wastage.
Highlighting the importance of qualified judicial appointments, Buba urged the judiciary to select individuals capable of challenging the actions of other government arms effectively.
He underscored the judiciary’s role in maintaining checks and balances within the government.
