The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Joseph Yakubu, for allegedly killing his father, Yakubu Dalyop, using a pestle.

The incident occurred during a disagreement in the Anglo-Jos community, Jos South Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Hassan Yabanet, during a paraded of suspects for various offences on Tuesday, said the suspect struck his father on the head with a pestle during the altercation, causing him to lose consciousness.

According to him, the victim was subsequently rushed to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital but unfortunately passed away on February 19, 2024, while receiving treatment.

Yakubu was apprehended by the police, and the corpse of the deceased was deposited at the same hospital mortuary.

The case remains under investigation, and upon its conclusion, the suspect will be charged to court.

Commissioner Yabanet assured the public of the command’s commitment to ensuring adequate protection of lives and property in the state.

He highlighted the implementation of new operational strategies aimed at flushing out criminals, which has already resulted in the arrest of individuals involved in various criminal activities such as conspiracy, trespass, disturbance of public peace, kidnapping, and culpable homicide.

He also called for the support and cooperation of the community in achieving this objective.
