The city of Ibadan, Oyo State, witnessed protests on Monday as youths took to the streets to express their grievances over the soaring prices of food and the overall state of the economy.
The protesters gathered around the Mokola area, brandishing placards with messages demanding an end to food inflation and expressing concerns about the plight of the poor.
Some of the inscriptions on the placards included ‘End food hike and inflation,’ ‘The poor are starving,’ and ‘Tinubu, don’t forget your promises.’
During the protest, participants chanted songs to amplify their grievances. Security was present at the scene, with armed policemen monitoring the situation.

A protester, who chose to remain anonymous, emphasized the need for collective action against the high cost of living, citing constitutional provisions that empower Nigerians to peacefully assemble and voice their concerns.
He stressed that the protest aimed to address the economic hardships faced by all Nigerians, not just individuals.
Another protester named Barakat lamented the worsening hunger in the country, expressing disappointment in the current state of affairs despite hopes for improvement under the leadership of Tinubu.
Meanwhile, similar protests erupted in Niger State, where women initially blocked the Minna-Bida Road at the Kpakungu Roundabout to decry the hardships under the Tinubu-led government.
The demonstration expanded as more people joined, leading to road blockades and disruption of traffic.
The protests reflect widespread frustration with the economic challenges exacerbated by the removal of fuel subsidies by President Tinubu in May 2023.
The participants are demanding urgent action to alleviate the economic burden on the populace.
