President Bola Tinubu has submitted a letter to the Senate, urging them to confirm the appointment of five individuals as directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) board.
The letter, addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, was read during a plenary session on Tuesday.
In the letter, President Tinubu requested the Senate to screen and confirm the nominations of Robert Agbide, Ado Wanga, Muritala Sagaley, Urom Eke, and Olayinka Aliyu as directors of the CBN board.
He emphasized that these nominations were made in accordance with the provisions of the CBN Establishment Act of 2007.
Tinubu expressed hope that the Senate would promptly consider his request, and he extended his highest regards to the distinguished Senate President.

It’s worth noting that earlier in January 2024, the CBN dissolved the boards and managements of Union Bank of Nigeria, Keystone Bank, and Polaris Bank due to alleged corporate governance infractions and non-compliance with regulatory requirements.
This action followed the submission of a final report by the Special Investigator on the CBN and Related Entities, Jim Obazee, to President Tinubu.
President Tinubu had appointed Jim Obazee as a special investigator in July 2023 to probe the CBN and key Government Business Entities.
In his appointment letter, Tinubu instructed Obazee to investigate these entities with the assistance of competent teams and collaborate with relevant security and anti-corruption agencies.
Tinubu also requested weekly briefings on the progress of the investigation.
