The UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, commented on Tuesday that King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis was detected early, offering some relief despite the shocking news.

During an interview on BBC Radio 5, Sunak expressed his initial reaction to the news, describing feeling “shocked and scared.”

However, he also mentioned that he was grateful that the cancer was discovered at an early stage.

The announcement of Charles’s cancer diagnosis came from Buckingham Palace on Monday.

It was disclosed that the diagnosis was made during a hospital visit last month for a procedure related to an enlarged prostate.

While the exact type and stage of cancer were not specified, the palace confirmed that it was not prostate cancer.

Treatment for the cancer began on Monday, resulting in the suspension of the King’s public engagements.

Other members of the royal family, including Queen Camilla and Prince William, are expected to take on additional responsibilities in his absence.

Despite the diagnosis, Charles is anticipated to continue his official duties, with the palace stating that he will handle State business and official paperwork as usual.

This development comes less than a year after Charles ascended to the throne in May 2023 following the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022 at the age of 96.
