The Nigeria Police Force has officially confirmed the arrest of its officers involved in the abduction and extortion of a businessman in Abuja, where a sum of N29.9 million was extorted from him in January.
The force’s spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced the development on Tuesday via his Twitter handle (@Princemoye1), affirming that significant progress had been made toward ensuring justice in the case.
Adejobi stated, “We are making headway on this matter, and justice will be served, as some suspects have been arrested. Hakuna matata.”
The victim was reportedly abducted at one of his sites in Abuja by armed police officers, who detained him until he transferred all the money in his bank account to them. Subsequently, they demanded further payments from his relatives and friends before releasing him.

In a trending video, it was revealed that the victim was stopped by police officers armed with AK-47 rifles, dressed in black attire, and was subsequently taken to different locations around Abuja.
The victim’s phone and wallet were checked, and he was coerced into transferring all his account funds to designated accounts provided by the officers. Additionally, his friends were contacted for further payments.
Responding swiftly to criminal activities, police operatives from the Federal Capital Territory command arrested a 20-year-old kidnap kingpin, Buhari Muhammad, and five others at a hotel in Abuja within 24 hours.
The arrest was made following intelligence on their activities, culminating in the rescue of another victim, Joshua Eze, who was abducted on January 27 and subsequently freed unharmed on January 28, 2024.
The FCT command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, announced the arrest, stating that one AK-47 rifle and N350,000 were recovered from the suspects.
