The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria has finalized the fare prices for the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage exercise.

Initially set at N4.5 million as an initial deposit in October, the commission aimed to maintain this amount, taking into account the dollar rate’s impact on the overall cost of Hajj-related expenses.

In a Saturday statement by Fatima Usara, NAHCON’s Assistant Director of Public Affairs, the Commission acknowledged efforts to keep the fares at N4.5 million.

However, due to recent fluctuations in the dollar exchange rate, adjustments were deemed necessary. Chairmanof the commision, Jalal Arabi, had negotiated prices with service providers in Saudi Arabia, but the currency instability led to the decision to make adjustments to avoid a potential increase to N6 million.

As a result, the commission has set fares for intending pilgrims from Nigeria’s Southern center at N4,899,000, those from the Northern center at N4,699,000, and pilgrims from Yola and Maiduguri centers at N4,679,000 for the 2024 Hajj exercise.

Intending pilgrims have been advised to pay or balance their Hajj fares by Monday, February 12, 2024, to facilitate the timely transfer of funds before the looming deadline.

Chairman Arabi emphasized the limited time available and the commission’s commitment to exploring options to remain within the N4.5 million range, stating, “this is the will of Allah.”

Despite challenges posed by foreign exchange factors, NAHCON assured the public of its dedication to ensuring a smooth and successful Hajj pilgrimage, expressing gratitude for the understanding and cooperation of the Nigerian Muslim community during these times.
