Approximately 40 bandits attacked the Kawu community in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Thursday, abducting 23 people.

Kawu shares boundaries with Niger and Kaduna states. The assailants, numbering around 40, reportedly arrived in the community from the Kuyeri Forest in Kaduna State.

The bandits divided themselves into groups, targeting various locations, including the palace of the district head, where the district head’s son and wife were abducted.

They also attacked the compound of the Marafa of Kawu and former PDP Chairman of Kawu Ward, abducting him and his four children.

The Sarkin Pawan Kawu, along with his two wives and some children, was also abducted.

The Councilor representing the area, Abdulmumini Zakari, confirmed the incident, stating that the bandits had escaped into Kaduna State after the raid.

The FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, acknowledged the attack, confirming that unknown hoodlums stormed Kawu village and kidnapped people.

The incident occurred shortly after 85 persons were reportedly abducted by terrorists at Katari along the Kaduna – Abuja highway, and 11 individuals were kidnapped in the Sagwari Estate Layout in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, by gunmen dressed as military personnel.
