President Bola Tinubu has endorsed significant “cost-cutting” measures, entailing a 60% reduction in official entourages for both local and international travels.

The announcement was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, during a briefing at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday.

Ngelale specified that the directive applies to the Offices of the President, Vice President, First Lady, Wife of the Vice President, and all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

President Tinubu has decided to no longer permit extensive security delegations during his travels within the country, aiming to curtail substantial expenses related to estacode and duty allowances.

The cost-cutting measures include limiting the number of individuals accompanying the President on international trips to no more than 20.

For the First Lady, this limit is reduced to five, while the Vice President and the Wife of the Vice President are allowed a maximum of five entourage members on official international trips.

For domestic travels within the country, the President has approved a cap of 25 staff members accompanying him.

The Offices of the First Lady and the Wife of the Vice President are restricted to 10 staff members on official trips within the country.

The Vice President is allowed a maximum of 15 staff members on domestic official trips.

Additionally, ministers are now limited to four persons for foreign trips, and heads of agencies are restricted to traveling with only two persons.

This decision follows public criticism faced by the Tinubu administration for the substantial entourage accompanying the President to the COP28 Climate Change Summit in Dubai, UAE, four weeks ago.
