Former Taraba State Governor, Jolly Nyame, has expressed his commitment to being a better leader if given another opportunity to govern the state.

This commitment was made during a Thanksgiving service at the Christian Association of Nigeria secretariat in Jalingo, the state capital.

Nyame, who previously served as governor, faced legal challenges and was convicted for fraud in 2018, resulting in a 14-year prison sentence.

However, he received a presidential pardon from former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2022, leading to his release after serving four years of the sentence.

At the Thanksgiving service, Nyame shared that his time in prison had provided him with valuable lessons, and he pledged to use that experience to become a more effective leader for the people of Taraba State.

He underscored the significance of leaders standing strong in the face of challenges.

“I learned a lot while in Kuje Prison and the hospital. If given another opportunity to lead the people of Taraba State, I will do better because of the experience I have gained,” Nyame stated.

Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Gudu, Abuja, had sentenced Nyame to 14 years imprisonment in 2018 for acts of criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of the sum of N1.64 billion belonging to the state.

Nevertheless, Nyame views the presidential pardon granted by former President Buhari as a vindication of his actions.
