The United States, the United Kingdom, and 10 other states have issued a warning to rebels in Yemen, cautioning them of consequences if they persist in attacking commercial shipping in the Red Sea.

In a joint statement, primarily from Western nations, the group called for an immediate cessation of these attacks.

In response, the Houthi rebels have expressed defiance, declaring their intent to continue targeting vessels they perceive as linked to Israel.

While US and British warships in the region have intercepted some missiles, they have refrained from attacking targets within Yemen itself.

However, there is speculation that this stance may change.

The situation in the strategically significant southern Red Sea is currently at a stand-off.

The Bab al-Mandab Strait, a critical waterway through which nearly 15% of global trade passes, heightens concerns about potential disruptions to fuel prices and supply chains if attacks persist.

Since November, the rebels have launched over 20 attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea, utilizing missiles, drones, fast boats, and helicopters.

The international community’s warning underscores the gravity of the situation and the potential economic repercussions if the attacks continue.
