The Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, has strongly condemned the Christmas Eve attacks on communities within Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

The attacks, which occurred during the festive season, resulted in the loss of over 100 lives and extensive property damage.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, Governor Yahaya expressed his deep concern, describing the attacks as “reprehensible and heinous.”

On behalf of the 19 Northern Governors, he extended heartfelt condolences to the affected families and communities, as well as the government and people of Plateau State.

The press statement emphasized the cowardice and counterproductive nature of such acts of violence, especially during a time when residents were preparing to celebrate the festive season.

Governor Yahaya urged a commitment to peace and harmonious living, emphasizing the need for unity and solidarity regardless of differences.

“It is reprehensible and disheartening to hear of the loss of over 100 lives and destruction of property that occurred during these attacks, especially during a time when residents were preparing to celebrate the festive season,” the statement read.

The NSGF chairman commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his leadership and responsible handling of the situation in the aftermath of the attacks.

Governor Yahaya assured Governor Mutfwang that the Forum stands united in solidarity with him and pledged collaborative efforts towards achieving lasting peace in Plateau State.

In addition, Governor Yahaya praised the security agencies operating in the area for their efforts and implored them to redouble their commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of the people.

He emphasized the urgent need for increased vigilance and swift action to ensure the safety of all citizens.

“Those responsible for the heinous acts must be swiftly apprehended and made to face the full weight of justice,” Governor Yahaya added.

He urged members of the communities affected by the attacks to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the security agencies for immediate intervention.

The NSGF chairman reiterated the importance of unity and commitment to peace, calling on all stakeholders to work together towards building a safer and more harmonious society.
