The Committee of Pro-Chancellors of State-Owned Universities has issued a call to the 36 state governments in Nigeria, urging them to augment the funding allocated to state-owned universities.
Expressing concern over the inadequate financial support currently provided to these institutions, the Pro-Chancellors articulated their position in a communique released at the conclusion of their sixty-second quarterly meeting held last Tuesday in Abuja.
In the communique, the Pro-Chancellors emphasized the pressing need for improved funding for state universities.

They urged the Vice-Chancellors of these universities to proactively explore alternative revenue sources to supplement the subventions received from the state governments.
Additionally, the Pro-Chancellors appealed to state governors to grant governing councils of the institutions the autonomy to determine appropriate tuition fees based on the prevailing circumstances.
This request reflects the recognition of the financial challenges faced by state-owned universities and the necessity for flexibility in addressing these challenges.
