The House of Representatives Committee on Housing and Habitat has expressed its commitment to addressing the housing needs of Nigerians through legislative intervention.

The committee, led by Chairman Aminu Kurfi, acknowledges the complexity and challenges associated with providing affordable housing and emphasizes the importance of parliamentary intervention.

Chairman Aminu Kurfi outlined the significant expectations placed on the committee by Nigerians from both the North and South regions.

He urged his colleagues to demonstrate commitment and dedication to addressing the housing deficit in the country, emphasizing the need for effective legislation, active partnership, collaboration, capacity building, mutual responsibility, open-door policy, and critical oversight functions.

He called for a spirit of unity and purpose among committee members and oversight partners, emphasizing their shared responsibility to serve homeless citizens.

Chairman Kurfi assured his colleagues of an inclusive leadership style with an open-door policy, welcoming useful ideas and support to achieve the committee’s goals.

He announced plans to decentralize responsibilities by creating sub-committees to handle specific issues and report back to the main committee.

In response, members commended the chairman’s liberal leadership approach, particularly the decentralization of responsibilities through subcommittees.

They pledged support for the chairman’s leadership and praised his openness to suggestions and ideas to move the committee forward.

The members also acknowledged the importance of collaboration and teamwork with stakeholders and emphasized the need for mutual respect within the committee.
