The Federal Government has outlined a budget of N23,085,000,000 for the rehabilitation and repairs of airports, airfields, and air navigational equipment in the 2024 fiscal year.

Within this allocation, N20,985,000,000 is allocated for the rehabilitation and repairs of airports and aerodromes, while N2.1 billion is earmarked for the rehabilitation of air navigational equipment.

This information is part of the executive proposal in the 2024 Appropriation Bill, which also designates over N63.31 billion for the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.

The breakdown includes N39.80 billion for the ministry, N13,199,789,935 for the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, N5,500,235,528 for the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology in Zaria, and N4,808,779,916 for the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau.

Further details of the allocation indicate that the Ministry and its agencies are set to spend over N1.39 billion on various items, including refreshments, meals, welfare packages, and sporting activities.

As part of ongoing projects, the Ministry plans to allocate N2 billion for the development of the Aerospace University in Abuja and N1 billion for the expansion of wing D and E fingers of Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos.

Additionally, N500 million is designated for ongoing safety and security-critical projects and airport certification nationwide, with N10 million allocated for the purchase of fire trucks for airports.

A separate budget of N60 million has been set aside for the ongoing Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement and Multilateral Air Service Agreement with countries such as Namibia, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Russia, Senegal, Israel, Pakistan, Iran, South Africa, Eritrea, Venezuela, among others.
