In a recent interview, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, leader of the Ilana Omo Oodua group advocating for the Yoruba Nation, reiterated the movement’s unwavering commitment to achieving an independent Yoruba nation despite the emergence of a Yoruba president.
Igboho addressed questions about whether the movement would reconsider its stance following the election of President Bola Tinubu, a Yoruba man, stating that the agitation for the Yoruba nation began long before Tinubu’s presidential bid.
“We haven’t dropped the agitation for the Yoruba nation despite the emergence of President Bola Tinubu. We have been on this agitation long even before Tinubu clinched the presidential ticket of his political party, the All Progressives Congress,” Igboho emphasized.

He clarified that the movement’s objective is not contingent on the election of a Yoruba president, asserting that Tinubu’s Yoruba heritage does not deter them from pursuing the Yoruba nation’s realization.
Despite a lower profile in recent times, Igboho assured the public that the Ilana Omo Oodua group is actively advancing its cause.
He revealed that the United Nations is kept informed through periodic updates on the progress made in their struggle for Yoruba self-determination.
“You may think that you haven’t heard from us or seen much of us recently, we are still on the project, and the United Nations is aware of our activities. We have submitted correspondence and letters keeping the world body abreast of our progression in the struggle for Yoruba,” Igboho disclosed.
Addressing criticism against his leadership and impact, Igboho dismissed claims that he lacked the authority to spearhead the self-determination movement.
“Nobody is exclusively vested with the power in this struggle. We have leaders like Prof. Akintoye, but my critics cannot determine the requirements for leading this peaceful, legitimate campaign,” he asserted.
Igboho remains resolute in pursuing the Yoruba nation’s realization, emphasizing that the movement’s goals transcend the political landscape.
