The Federal Capital Territory Police Command announced the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of arms and ammunition, foiling an alleged plot to disrupt the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) convention held in Abuja.

The arrested individuals are Adeniran Femi, Ishaya Christopher, Obigi Emeka, Fatokun Ayodele, and Abdullahi Saliu.

Security operatives intercepted the suspects, who were allegedly planning to disrupt the NANS convention on November 30, 2023.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, issued a warning against any form of disturbance of public peace, unlawful assembly, and criminal infiltration of lawful assemblies within the nation’s capital.

Among the exhibits recovered from the suspects were a pump-action gun, one locally-made double-barrel shotgun, two locally-made pistols, one Beretta pistol, 15 live ammunition cartridges, and an axe,

Other exibits recovered are 12 cutlasses, mobile phones, a bag containing uniforms of security agencies, and a Mazda car with registration number RBC909DP containing some of the seized items.

The police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the arrests and warned against any attempt to disrupt public peace.

The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend other suspects still at large.

The suspects were apprehended with the cooperation of the Department of State Services.
