In a shocking turn of events, a Russian-backed politician and deputy in Ukraine’s eastern Lugansk regional parliament, Oleg Popov, was killed in a car bombing attack on Wednesday, according to investigators.
This incident marks another grim chapter in the series of attacks targeting high-profile supporters of Russia’s assault on Ukraine and Moscow-installed officials since the onset of Russia’s offensive last February.
The Russia Investigative Committee reported that Popov lost his life due to the “detonation of an unidentified device in a car,” withholding further details.
