Justice Adenike Akinpelu of the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin has sentenced the Serikin Fulani (Head of the Fulani) in Kwara State, Alhaji Usman Adamu, along with his brother and an accomplice, to life imprisonment for conspiracy to kidnap and the commission of kidnapping.

The case, which involved the kidnapping of one Abubakar Ahmad and the subsequent collection of a N1 million ransom, was investigated by the Department of State Security and prosecuted by the state Ministry of Justice.

The court found the trio guilty, emphasizing that their physical presence at the kidnap scene was immaterial.

Justice Akinpelu expressed dismay at community leaders breaching the security of their subjects for financial gain.

Despite pleas for leniency based on family responsibilities, the judge sentenced them to life imprisonment, as mandated by Section 15 of the Kwara State Anti-Kidnapping Law.

Additionally, the convicts were ordered to pay N600,000 to the victim of the abduction, Alhaji Ahmad.
