The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to reclaiming the drainage right of way within the seven-meter setback, despite reported threats and propaganda from some quarters.

The stance was emphasized by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab.

Earlier, Wahab had issued a seven-day contravention notice to owners of buildings encroaching on the seven-meter drainage setback on Orchid Road, Agungi, Ajiran, Conservation Road, Osapa, and Oral Estate II in the Lekki area.

The notice followed multiple stop-work warnings to the owners, and the government emphasized that enforcement would commence after the deadline.

The clampdown raised concerns, with claims circulating on social media that the government was targeting specific ethnic groups.

Responding to these claims on his Twitter handle, @Tokunbo_Wahab, the commissioner stated that the government would not succumb to propaganda, blackmail, or threats.

“We are not going to bow to any propaganda, blackmail, or threat. No one can break the law and still benefit from it. The law will take its course. The era of ‘anyhowness’ is completely over!” Wahab asserted.
